Signs You Have a Mosquito Problem

Mosquitoes can become a major issue quickly, especially during warm and humid months. If you notice any of the following signs, it may indicate that mosquitoes are breeding or resting around your property:

Frequent Bites
If you or your family are getting bitten as soon as you step outside—especially around dawn or dusk—mosquito activity is likely high in your yard.

Visible Swarms
Seeing groups of mosquitoes hovering in shaded areas, near shrubs, or around standing water is a strong sign of an active breeding population.

Standing Water on Your Property
Mosquitoes lay their eggs in even the smallest amounts of stagnant water—bird baths, buckets, clogged gutters, plant saucers, old tires, and puddles are all prime locations.

Buzzing Sounds
That distinct, high-pitched buzzing near your ears or around outdoor areas often means mosquitoes are nearby, even if you don’t see them immediately.

Increased Activity After Rain
Heavy rain or frequent storms can create more standing water, which can quickly lead to a spike in mosquito populations.

Mosquito Larvae
If you look closely in standing water and see tiny wriggling larvae (often called “wigglers”), that’s a clear indication that mosquitoes are breeding on your property.

Pets Scratching More Than Usual
Mosquitoes frequently target animals as well. If your dogs or outdoor pets seem extra irritated, it could be due to increased mosquito bites.
